A Place For Peace

The golden moments in the stream of life rush past us and we see nothing but sand; the angels come to visit us, and we only know know them when they’re gone.

This child.. amazing, moving, joyful, sweet, tearful...

This six year old little girl, Elena, suffering from brain cancer, hid love notes for her parents to find after her death.

Just before her sixth birthday, Elena Desserich (right) was diagnosed with brain cancer and given 135 days to live. She lived 255 days, passing away in 2007. After her death, Elena’s parents, Brooke and Keith, found hundreds of notes from Elena hidden around the house — in between CD cases, between bookshelves, in dresser drawers, in backpacks….

 “It just felt like a little hug from her, like she was telling us she was looking over us”

When 6-year-old Elena Desserich was diagnosed with brain cancer, she began hiding hundreds of little love notes around the house for her parents to find after she was gone. Here’s the story:

Happy Halloween! and clock reminder...

Happy Halloween!

Have a safe and fun day!

and don’t forget, we have to move the clocks back. It’ll be dark even earlier now. ; (( That can be a little depressing. My suggestion, cuddle up with warm, nice smelling blankets, a good movie, and make some hot chocolate. Those things help me feel better. ; )

Peace…

i'm going to take you for a ride with my car cam.. c'mon, let's go

This is one of the gazillion ideas lodged within my brain. Today I decided to shake it free and give it a try. My idea originated with a different location in mind, but today I was heading here when I decided to try it. So through the use of bungee cords I strapped my camera to my rearview mirror. If you care to tag along I can

Going grey? What do you think of this??

An elephant car wash? I wonder how many peanuts an hour they make.

I once rode on an elephant. It was the same day that I rode on the camel and played catch with a seal.

living out loud, with sheer honesty...

(I posted this on my personal site this morning. I have deicded to place it here as well as I personally feel it important information. There are a couple spots that won’t jive with my page here at Lucys as it was written for my site.)

If you remember, back in May I became a non-smoker. I had only stopped one other time for a five month period during my thirty years of smoking. This decision to stop came for two reasons. One of course being the cost of cigarettes now, but most importantly the fact that I have been dealing with the effects of having COPD. I was diagnosed with COPD many years ago. Over time it has continued to worsen. It is currently in the bronchial stages, not yet emphysema, yet being the key word.

So readers, it has been a million years and forever since my last confession. These

the rebel rose and played risk...

The beach was closed down on Saturday 8/22/09 at four due to Hurricane Bill. I had been engulfed in the deep blue sea all day.. you know, riptides, currents. Sunday morning the rebel rose and I played risk. I rode the waves at no liability to the lifeguards they said and apparently was setting a bad example. I’m sorry, but hey, what have I to lose?? The only way to show the size and intensity of the seas was to shoot this video and it still does not represent what stares down at you as you stand actually in it.. all that can be said when you look up at what is breaking in front of you is, ‘oh @#&@’. Sorry for the not so great footage as I was only using a point and shoot camera. At the end of the day I survived with only some minor cuts, scrapes, and bruises. My worst injury occured when I sat down in a beach chair, it collapsed on me, closing me in like an accordian,and the metal bar smacking me on the back of the head leaving an instant egg, which really hurts by the way! LOL!! ; )

The video really does not do justice to my experience. The first wave I caught this morning felt like it was going to snap my back in half, but I got up and went back out.. I played risk. In the still below, the dark spot in the white, that is me. I was engulfed, I drank a lot of salt water.. I told myself to relax, you’ll come out in a minute. It was in this one I believe that my board was torn from my wrist and was about 20 feet away when I came out.

August 16th and 20th...

you are both missed with an undying love, until the day…

i walk through this life with a facade so brilliant i often fool myself when all i actually want is to go home.

 The tide rises, the tide falls,
The twilight darkens, the curlew calls;
Along the sea-sands damp and brown
The traveller hastens toward the town,
And the tide rises, the tide falls.

Darkness settles on roofs and walls,
But the sea, the sea in the darkness calls;
The little waves, with their soft, white hands,
Efface the footprints in the sands,
And the tide rises, the tide falls.

The morning breaks; the steeds in their stalls
Stamp and neigh, as the hostler calls;
The day returns, but nevermore
Returns the traveller to the shore,
And the tide rises, the tide falls.

overcoming adversity, one letter at a time...

His mind was sharp, but his vision was blurred. He could think, but could not talk. He wanted to write, but could not use his hands. With one eye sewn shut, his only means of communication was by blinking his left eye. Yet with all his obstacles and challenges, he was able to ”write” a bestselling book that was turned into a movie. Who am I talking about? Jean-Dominique Bauby the author of “The Diving Bell and the Butterfly”.

There are stories that entertain, stores that scare, and stories that motivate. This is a story of motivation, perseverance and accomplishment in the face of adversity and debilitating paralysis. Every now and then you come across a story so powerful and compelling, that it grabs you by the throat and just won’t let go. Such is the nature of the true story of Jean- Dominique Bauby – locked in his body as one is in entombed in a diving bell, yet free to wander, dream and travel to faraway places using only his mind.
